This afternoon, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak announced that he will not be leaving Egypt OR stepping down as leader of Egypt. He instead will be handing over some of his powers to the vice president. One would think that after the amount of protests and number of businesses that have been closed, that it would dawn on him that its time for him to leave. This man is obviously power hungry, I mean he has been leading this country for 30 years!
Everyone, including Americans and even our own President Obama, believed that he was going to announce his resignation as President of Egypt. Before his speech, people began their celebration believing that he was truly going to step down. After receiving the bad news though, this sparked big riots and outcries. If you ask me, seems like Mubarak just signed his death-sentence. The opposition rally is already marching towards the palace and camping outside as close as they can get until the morning hours. These people are angry and have every right to be. They all have the right to democracy and the right to choose their own government.
So will the opposition rally become more violent now that they have been tricked? Was this announcement by Mubarak the spark to rising these rallies more than ever? Let's just say tomorrow's rally will be HUGE. It's time for change.
